From its groves in Brazil's two main olive oil-producing regions, the company earned Gold Awards for its medium-intensity Mantiqueira Arbequina and Blend de Terroir brands. Azeite Sabiá also won a Silver Award for its medium-intensity Koroneiki. Previously, Azeite Sabiá earned Gold Awards in 2021 and 2022.
"We are very happy and proud," co-owner Beatriz Pereira said. "Winning at the NYIOOC is recognition that we are doing our best."
In the 2022/23 crop year, the company used traditional methods to produce 20,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Koroneiki and Arbequina olives.
"The topography of Serra da Mantiqueira, the short period between the ideal maturation point and the ripening of the olives, and the difficulty to find temporary laborers were our biggest challenges," Pereira said.
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
