Fazenda do Campo Alto Wins Gold at World Competition
Brazilian producer Fazenda do Campo Alto has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We are very proud and happy to win such an important award. It's very important to our brand because NYIOOC is very respectable in Brazil.
Beatriz Pereira, owner
In the 2019/20 crop year, the company produced 1,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil in the Serra da Mantiqueira from Koroneiki olives using traditional harvesting methods. Fazenda do Campo Alto won the Gold Award for its Azeite Sabiá brand, a medium Koroneiki.
"We are very proud and happy to win such an important award," owner Beatriz Pereira said. "It's very important to our brand because NYIOOC is very respectable in Brazil."
Due to the hilly topography of the Serra da Mantiqueira, Pereira said the olive harvest is always a long and tiring time of year, but she enjoys the work.
"We had good production and the biggest challenge was the harvest because of the Mantiqueira's topography, which is mountainous, making it hard to stand and to walk carrying the olives," Pereira said. "We have our own mill and after harvesting the whole day we continued to work there. It was tiring but pleasant."
