Agresti 1902 Awarded for Outstanding Colline Pontine PDO
Italian producer Agresti 1902 has won a second-consecutive accolade from the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
Based in Lazio, the company earned its second-straight Gold Award for a medium Itrana monovarietal from the Colline Pontine PDO. The producer's 501 Altitudo brand earned a Gold Award last year.
"Since last year, we have decided to focus decisively on the United States market with our premium oils," chief executive Francesco Agresti said.
"Last year, our monocultivar Itrana 501 Altitudo obtained the Gold Award," he added. "This year, it's the turn of our PDO Colline Pontine Agresti 1902, Itrana in purity, considered the best PDO Colline Pontine 2023 in Italy."
In the 2022/23 crop year, Agresti 1902 produced 2,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. Agresti said this year's harvest was especially challenging due to the impacts of climate change.
"Climate change is redefining the calendar of olive growers, with ever earlier-than-anticipated harvests, maximum alertness to counter the attacks of pathogens and the continuous search for the balance between increasingly sustainable management and an oil with ever greater nutraceutical properties," he said.
