In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 2,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil in Umbria from Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olives using traditional methods. Casa Astrid earned the Silver Award for an organic delicate blend.
"At Casa Astrid, we all feel extremely happy and proud that our love, passion and dedication for this product are recognized by professionals," owner Jean-Luc Decroo said. "For our company, it means that consumers are more confident to buy and use our extra virgin olive oil."
"The best award we can get over and over again is returning customers," he added. "It motivates us to bring excellence."
For the producers behind Casa Astrid, the 2020 harvest was complicated by Covid-19 restrictions and the bad weather experienced in Umbria.
"The challenge has been to form a skilled team to organize the harvest, as movement was restricted," Decroo said. "Also, the rain was an issue so we needed to wait for good weather conditions."
"Once bottled, we arranged three shuttles to transport our olive oil to Belgium, avoiding the huge delays by transport companies due to the Covid situation," he added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
