Trás-os-Montes Company Adds 3 Awards

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

Trás-os-Montes Prime has won three awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Fortunately, our extra virgin olive oils have always been awarded for the past six years; excellent motivation to continue doing well and always trying to do better.

António Pavão, co-owner

The highly decorated producer, hailing from the renowned northern region of Portugal, took home two Gold Awards and one Silver Award, bringing their total medal haul up to 14 at the competition.

"Having our award-winning olive oils at NYIOOC is very important for our brand and our company, as NYIOOC is one of the most prestigious contests in the world," co-owner António Pavão said. "Fortunately our extra virgin olive oils have always been awarded over the past six years; excellent motivation to continue doing well and always trying to do better."

The two Gold Awards were given for the Casa de Santo Amaro Premium and Grande Escolha brands, both of which are medium blends. Their Silver was awarded for Casa de Santo Amaro Prestige, another medium blend.

The company produces extra virgin olive oil from a blend of Cobrancosa and Verdeal olives using traditional methods.

Pavão said the secret to the company's success is controlling every step of the process and ensuring their high standards are always met.

"During the year, we take care of the olive trees of our farm, and we harvest the fruits in autumn," he said. "The olives are transported directly from the field to our olive mill and immediately processed. We store and package all of our extra virgin olive oil."

"This is the way to assure a high level of quality," Pavão added. "Everything is done in our farm."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
