Gli Oliveti del Poggio Triumph, Again
Italian producer Gli Oliveti del Poggio has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
We feel very proud. It means we now have to set new international goals.
Matteo Fratini, owner
The Umbrian producer took home the award for its I Potti De Fratini brand, a medium Moraiolo. I Potti De Fratini also won Gold in the 2019 edition of the competition.
"We feel very proud," owner Matteo Fratini said. "It means we now have to set new international goals."
In the 2019/20 season, Gli Oliveti del Poggio produced 4,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
Fratini revealed that harvesting early is one of his keys to success, but brings with it the challenge of doing so while avoiding the hot central Italian weather.
"We do an early harvest to make a high-quality product, while facing the hot temperatures," he said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
