Stancija St. Antonio Extends NYIOOC Winning Streak
Stancija St. Antonio from Croatia continued their storied run at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition by adding two more Gold Awards to their collection.
Based in the northwestern Istrian peninsula, the company earned its second Gold Award for an organic medium Istrian Bjelica, and first-ever Gold for its Mix brand, a medium blend. In total, the Stancija St. Antonio has earned seven Gold Awards and three Silver Awards since 2017.
"We have been attending world and domestic competitions since the company was founded," said Marijan Marjanovic, the company's chief executive. "We prove ourselves in competitions from year to year and it is very important to us that we have constantly excellent results. The awards go to the whole team I lead and we are very proud of the consistency."
In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 15,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. Marjanovic acknowledged that he had been lucky with this year's harvest, which helped propel him to sixth consecutive success at the NYIOOC.
"This year we had a great harvest, while others had losses of 50 to 90 percent, we were able to figure out what was going on in the olive grove and react in time," he said. "We encouraged earlier flowering and managed to bloom a few days before the others. This was crucial as high temperatures ensued and the flower dried and fell."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
