Spanish Oaks Ranch Celebrates NYIOOC Awards
Spanish Oaks Ranch, from the United States, has won three Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
We are incredibly excited by the success of our oils at the NYIOOC this year. We are continually working to improve the quality and freshness of our oil and our success in this prestigious competition demonstrates our efforts are having a big impact.
Sam Israelit said about the award
The California-based company earned the awards for its robust Italian Blend, robust Spanish blend and robust Picual monovarietal.
"We are incredibly excited by the success of our oils at the NYIOOC this year," co-owner Sam Israelit said.
"We are continually working to improve the quality and freshness of our oil and our success in this prestigious competition demonstrates our efforts are having a big impact," he added. "We couldn't be happier!"
The company produces extra virgin olive oil from a blend of Arbequina, Hojiblanca and Picual olives using traditional methods.
For Israelit, the 2019/20 season came with some climatic challenges. Cool weather delayed blossoming at the beginning of the season and later the harvest.
"Due to the cool weather in March, our harvest was a month later than usual so we started to have a risk of freezing," he said. "We lost a large portion of our Picual, which yielded a great oil this year."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
