Škegro Family Winery Wins 5th Straight

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

The Škegro Family Winery from Bosnia and Herzegovina won its fifth-consecutive Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We continue to build our brand worldwide with awards from this competition.

Barisa Škegro, co-owner

In the 2021/22 crop year, the Herzegovinan winery produced 300 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Leccino, Oblica, Pendolino and Cipressino olives using traditional methods.

"We continue to build our brand worldwide with awards at this competition," said co-owner Barisa Škegro, adding that climate once again was their stiffest challenge.

"There were a lot of days without rain, leading to small yields but intensive flavors," he said. "We have learned to appreciate our strong olive trees."

The Škegro Family Winery earned the Gold Award for its Krš brand, a medium blend, which will now be added to the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.

Officials in Herzegovina believe consistent winning performances at the world's largest olive oil competition will galvanize the region's nascent olive oil sector.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
