Château d’Estoublon Wins 4 Awards at 2020 NYIOOC

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

French producer SAS Estoublon has won four awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

This is a great recognition of all the hard work of our staff throughout the year in the olive orchard and then the mill. It is also a great recognition of French olive oils, which are often forgotten in such competitions.

Sedad Ramic, marketing manager

The company earned three Gold Awards for is Château d'Estoublon Picholine, an organic robust Picholine, Château d'Estoublon Béruguette, a medium Aglandau, and Château d'Estoublon Salonenque, a medium Salonenque.

The Vallée des Baux-de-Provence-based producer also won a Silver Award for its organic delicate Vallée des Baux de Provence PDO Blend.

"This is a great recognition of all the hard work of our staff throughout the year in the olive orchard and then the mill," marketing manager Sedad Ramic said. "It is also a great recognition of French olive oils, which are often forgotten in such competitions."

In the 2019/20 season SAS Estoublon produced 50,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil from Aglandau, Picholine, Bouteillan, Salonenque and Grossane olives using traditional methods.

Ramic credited the dry weather and hot summer experienced by the region as one of the reasons this year's oils turned out so well, but added that the weather also forced them to push back the harvest.

"2019 was marked by dry weather until harvest (from mid-October to mid-December) and accompanied by a very hot summer," he said. "These conditions have resulted in a good concentration of oil in the olives."

"We had a rather late harvest compared to the previous vintage in order to get the expected lovely aromas extracted from each of the varieties at harvest," Ramic added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
