Catalan Cooperative Celebrates NYIOOC Gold
Sant Isidre de Les Borges Blanques from Spain has won a Gold Award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
We are very happy that our Terrall de Sant Isidre extra virgin olive oil has been recognized in such a prestigious contest. We are even happier, if possible, to obtain the Gold Award in our first participation.
Francesc Vilanova, marketing manager
The Catalan cooperative responsible for administering the Les Garrigues Protected Designation of Origin earned its debut World Competition award for its Terrall brand, a medium-intensity Arbequina.
"We are very happy that our Terrall de Sant Isidre extra virgin olive oil has been recognized in such a prestigious contest," marketing manager Francesc Vilanova said. "We are even happier, if possible, to obtain the Gold Award in our first participation."
In the 2023/24 crop year, Sant Isidre de Les Borges Blanques produced 395,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
"The harvest is the most important moment of the year as it summarizes all the work done during the past 12 months," Vilanova said. "It is a beautiful and, at the same time, difficult moment. It is beautiful because it allows us to savor the fruit of our olive trees, and it is difficult because of the responsibility of doing everything right to obtain a top-quality oil."
