Istria’s OPG Beaković Awarded for Native Buza

8 months agoBy OOT Staff

OPG Beaković from Croatia has won a Gold Award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

For our company, this Gold Award means that we are going in the right direction.

Mauricio Beaković, owner

The Istrian producer earned the award for a medium-intensity Buza, which previously won a Gold Award in 2021.

"We are proud and happy about this Gold Award," said owner Mauricio Beaković. "For our company, this Gold Award means that we are going in the right direction."

In the 2023/24 crop year, OPG Beaković produced 4,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"This year, the harvest was challenging because of the rain that started in October," Beaković said. "But the most important thing is that we arrived to harvest healthy fruits at the optimal time, which yielded very high-quality olive oil, confirmed by the Gold Award."
