Rastrello Awarded Again at NYIOOC

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer Rastrello has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are all very proud of winning a Gold Award this year. It shows us that all of the actions that we apply to our harvest, milling, filtering and packaging are paying off.

Christiane Wassmann, co-owner

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 1,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Umbria using traditional methods. Rastrello earned the Gold Award for its medium blend for the second consecutive year.

"We are all very proud of winning a Gold Award this year," co-owner Christiane Wassmann said. "It shows us that all of the actions that we apply to our harvest, milling, filtering and packaging are paying off."

"Making sure that everything happens in a quick and cold-chain method is very strenuous, but necessary to respect our olives and create the high-quality extra virgin olive oil for which we strive," she added.

For Rastrello, the 2020/21 harvest came with plenty of challenges, including a difficult climate and Covid-19 restrictions.

"Our main challenges this year would have been managing the harvest with personnel during the pandemic, as well as having a hotter summer with little rain," Wassmann said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. The annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
