3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Porterville Olives from South Africa has won three Gold Awards at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are very grateful and humbled by the generosity of nature and the olive. The perseverance and meticulous attention to detail of our teams showed enormous character, which is reflected in the extra virgin olive oils.

Willie Duminy, owner

The family producer earned the awards for its Andante Intenso brand, a medium Nocellara del Belice, its Andante Forte brand, a medium Favolosa, and its Andante Mezzo brand, a delicate blend.

"We are very grateful and humbled by the generosity of nature and the olive," owner Willie Duminy said. "The perseverance and meticulous attention to detail of our teams showed enormous character, which is reflected in the extra virgin olive oils."

"Winning three Gold Awards at the NYIOOC helps us to promote and improve the love for and appreciation of premium extra virgin olive oil," he added.

Since 2016, Porterville Olives has earned 12 awards at the NYIOOC, including two Gold Awards in 2021 and one Gold Award in 2020.

In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 40,000 liters of oil from Nocellara del Belice, Favolosa and Frantoio olives using mechanical methods.

"The start of the season was delayed by adverse weather," Duminy said. "Soon after, startup power outages corrupted the plant computer, with more delays."

"With a new re-programmed computer, we could eventually get underway," he added. "The compressed season made extraordinary demands of our harvesters and dedicated milling team. But all ended well.
