Planeta Calls Award Win a ‘Great Occasion’
Planeta won a Silver Award for a medium blend at the world's premier olive oil quality contest this year.
We are honored about this award, especially in this difficult moment. It will be a great occasion to spread the news to our followers.
Francesca Planeta, Owner, Planeta
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Sicilia (Italy) from a blend of olives using traditional methods.
Company owners Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta noted that the season was marked by the addition of new trees.
"We started to pick on October 7 full of enthusiasm; the climate was very favorable. Two key pieces of news for the 2019 - the 50 hectares of new olive grove planted in Capparrina in 2017, which bring the total to 150 hectares, are now in production -- the production of our olive oil, coming exclusively from Capparrina, becomes IGP Sicilia," Francesca Planeta said.
The winning oil was Planeta Tradizionale, a medium blend.
"We are honored about this award, especially in this difficult moment. It will be a great occasion to spread the news to our followers, with story-telling about Planeta extra virgin olive oil IGP Sicilia, with a unique Sicilian taste to use at home. Thanks to NYIOOC," Francesca Planeta said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
