Italian producer Palazzo di Varignana has won two Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
The Gold Award at the NYIOOC for both of our monovarietal olive oils – Claterna and Vargnano – represents a great accomplishment for Palazzo di Varignana.

The Emilia-Romagna-based company earned the awards for its Claterna, a robust Ghiacciola, and its Vargnano, a medium-intensity Nostrana di Brisighella.
"The Gold Award at the NYIOOC for both of our monovarietal olive oils – Claterna and Vargnano – represents a great accomplishment for Palazzo di Varignana," comapny distributor and agent Francesca Mora said.
"It is also an affirmation of the quality of our olive oil, which is the result of extremely meticulous, dedicated and passionate team work," she added.
In the 2019/20 season, Palazzo di Varignana produced 4,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
While the harvested ended successfully for the company, Mora said that 2019 had been a difficult season, plagued by bad weather and problems with pests.
"2019 was a difficult year for our region, Emilia-Romagna," she said. "We faced several difficulties due to bad weather conditions and the olive fly."
"However, this pushed us to work even harder in order to excel in these tough conditions and made us stronger as a company," Mora added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
