Located on the island of Brač, off the coast of Dalmatia, the family producer earned a Gold Award for its medium Levantika.
"This is the first time we are participating in this prestigious competition, and we feel proud," owner Ivan Pfeiffer said. "We live in Bol on the island of Brač in Croatia, which is a tourist destination, and we are proud that we will be able to present our award-winning extra virgin olive oil to our guests."
In the 2022/23 crop year, M I Olive produced 1,200 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. Pfeiffer said the harvest went well, attributing the fruitful crop year to irrigation.
"It was a very dry period, but with irrigation, we managed to get through that period and give the [280] olive trees the necessary strength to produce 7,500 kilograms of quality fruit," he said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
