Olivar del Valle Triumphs in New York with Spanish Blend

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Spanish producer Aceites Olivar del Valle has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Based in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain's second-largest olive oil-producing region, the company earned a Gold Award for its Cerró del Tosoro brand, a medium blend of Picual and Cornicabra olives.

"Winning Gold at the NYIOOC is a reward for a job well done," marketing manager Mattia Annovi said. The company previously earned a Gold and Silver Award in 2022 for its Magnolio Cru and Cerró del Tosoro brands, respectively.

Like many other producers in Spain, Aceites Olivar del Valle faced plenty of challenges during the 2022/23 crop year, ranging from extreme weather to macroeconomic uncertainty.

The company has been producing extra virgin olive oil for nearly a decade, and Annovi confirmed that each season brings challenges. "The daily struggle to obtain quality extra virgin olive oil is a great challenge," he said.

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
