Đani Lazar Triumphs in New York With Outstanding Oblica
Small-scale Croatian producer OPG Đani Lazar has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Located in Šibenik-Knin County, in north-central Dalmatia, the company earned its second-consecutive award for its Orcolo brand, an organic medium Oblica.
Karlo Lazar, the company's co-owner, said they were "very happy" to learn that once again they had produced one of the world's best olive oils despite facing a "hard year for our region."
In the 2021/22 crop year, OPG Đani Lazar produced 100 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
Lazar said that in the company's 18th year, keeping the tradition alive was as important as ever. He told Olive Oil Times that winning the industry's most coveted olive oil award was evidence that the family's efforts were paying off.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
