Based in Vodice, Dalmatia, the family farm earned its second-consecutive Gold at the NYIOOC for an organic medium blend.
"We planted an olive grove 17 years ago and we have been in organic production for more than 10 years," owner Damir Buntić said. "It is a great pleasure and feeling of happiness when you see that hard work has paid off and was awarded the highest recognition."
In the 2021/22 crop year, the farm produced 1,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods, which was less than expected due to climatic challenges.
"Last year was not a commendable olive harvest," Buntić said. "Late frosts and little rain all spring and summer halved the olive crop. But the quality of the olive oil remained excellent."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
