Ogglio Awarded for Nocellara del Belice in New York

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Ogglio has won its second-straight award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

We were awarded Silver last year; this year, we learned from our mistakes, took in all the great advice received and finally made it to Gold.

Giuseppe Trapani, managing director

The company, which produces in Sicily and exports its extra virgin olive oils to the United Kingdom, earned a Gold Award for a medium Nocellara del Belice.

"The first year we entered the competition, we didn't win any award; we were awarded Silver last year; this year, we learned from our mistakes, took in all the great advice received and finally made it to Gold," managing director Giuseppe Trapani said.

"It really means a lot to me and especially to Andrea, who takes great care of the trees and pays a lot of attention to the production," he added.

This year's Gold Award is especially gratifying after Trapani said the ongoing drought significantly lowered his harvest.

"It didn't rain much last year, so our production was halved, as we do not irrigate our trees," he said. "We also started earlier than usual this year. Climate change is real and very tangible."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
