Neolea Wins Gold at World Competition

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Greek producer Neolea has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

This acknowledgment is a huge milestone for the team, the olive press and the farmers we work with. Although Neolea was always about more than only olive oil to me and everyone on the team, we are very glad to have won Gold again during this years' edition.

Bart Jan Manten, owner

The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Kalamata. Neolea earned the Gold Award for its delicate Koroneiki for a second consecutive year.

"This acknowledgment is a huge milestone for the team, the olive press and the farmers we work with," owner Bart Jan Manten said. "Although Neolea was always about more than only olive oil to me and everyone on the team, we are very glad to have won Gold again during this years' edition. It's the type of recognition we are extremely proud of."

For the producers behind Neolea, the recognition from the NYIOOC caps off a fruitful harvest in 2020.

"We were actually delighted with the harvest period," Jan Manten said. "It ran smoothly with no real difficulties. The weather conditions were very good, in terms of temperature and humidity, and the fact that there were no continuous rainfalls helped us harvest 10 to 15 days earlier than the previous year as the degree of olive ripening was the desired one."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed on the Official Index of the World's Best Olive Oils.
