Miguel Torres Win Gold After ‘Special Harvest’

Catalan producer Miguel Torres has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

In the 2020/21 season, the company produced 700 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Farga and Picudo olives using traditional methods.

Our harvest is made by hand, knowing the difficulties we have had with the Covid-19 pandemic, this is a really special harvest. We are really involved in developing national varieties and find special flavors.

"We are so happy," commercial representative Magda Marti said. "Winning at the NYIOOC means so much for us. We work really hard during the whole year to obtain the best oil and for us, this recognition is highly appreciated."
Miguel Torres won the Gold for its Purgatori, a delicate blend, which is imported to the U.S. by Torres Imports.
Marti added that the award is especially gratifying after the significant challenges that the Catalan producers faced in the 2020/21 crop year.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
