In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 250,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Extremadura from a blend of Arbequina, Picual, Hojiblanca and Morisca olives using traditional methods. Marqués de Valdueza earned the Gold Award for its Marqués de Valdueza delicate blend and the Silver Award for its Merula delicate blend.
"Winning at the NYIOOC is always a great satisfaction and, year after year, the recognition awarded to us only confirms that we are on the right path to producing quality olive oil from healthy fruit that pleases the consumer," sales manager John Cancilla said.
For the producers behind Marqués de Valdueza, the 2020 harvest was presented all the usual challenges, which they once again were able to overcome.
"The weather in our region always presents us with challenges, and this season was no different, but thanks to our integrated farming methods and centuries-old lien to the land, our family has been able to produce another harvest of excellent olive oils that not only win prizes but are sure to please even the most demanding olive oil connoisseur," Cancilla said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
