The Kalamata-based producer earned a Gold Award for a medium Koroneiki. The brand earned Gold Awards in 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2021 and a Silver Award in 2022.
"This has been our sixth award in the NYIOOC, five of which are Gold," owner Evgenia Andriopoulou said. "Being consistently on the list with the best olive oils is a great achievement. We are all very proud."
"And it is rewarding for our efforts that every year, we consistently produce a premium olive oil that carries the harmony and peace of the soul of the Makaria Terra land," she added.
In the 2022/23 crop year, Makaria Terra produced 10,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. Andriopoulou said labor shortages in Greece were the company's most significant challenges this season.
"Difficulties in personnel finding during harvest have been the greatest challenge," she confirmed. "We are harvesting early, though, and this has been vital in managing adequately this challenge."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
