Magnun Sess Beats the Heat to Craft Award-Winning Picual
Spanish producer Magnun Sess has won a Silver Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We are very proud to have won two medals in this important international competition in different years.

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 91 tons of extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia from Picual olives using traditional methods. Magnun Sess earned the Silver Award for its medium Picual.
"We are very grateful to receive this Silver Award and we are very proud to have won two medals in this important international competition in different years," marketing manager Andrea Márquez said. "This award is our reward for the effort we carry out in the field and internal management. We will continue working to achieve Gold Awards in the coming years."
Mangun Sess faced three major challenges during the 2020 harvest, all of which related to the unusually hot and dry summer the region experienced.
"First, there was a very intense period of drought. Then an excessively hot and prolonged summer," Márquez said. "And third, during the first three weeks of harvesting for cold extraction, temperatures were much higher than normal. We had to make stops at noon when the temperature went above 20 ºC."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
