Almazara de Alzaraz’s Organic Blend Awarded in New York
United States distributor Louis Organics and Spanish producer Olinexo have won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
"We feel delighted to win the Gold Award at the largest and most prestigious olive oil quality contest," said distributor Gerard Louis. "It accurately recognizes our farmers' and staffs' commitment and hard work in following sustainable organic farming practices to craft one of the world's best olive oils."
In the 2021/22 crop year, Olinexo produced 600 tons of organic extra virgin olive oil in Castilla-La Mancha using traditional methods. The company earned the award for its Almazara de Alzaraz brand, an organic medium blend.
Despite the bountiful harvest and award, Louis said the company faced plenty of challenges in the previous harvest year.
"Last year's frosts caused farmers to lose some olive trees; therefore, the production has been lower than the previous year," he said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
