Acecasa Wins Gold at 2022 NYIOOC for Superb Picual

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Spanish producer Acecasa has won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

Based in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain's second-largest olive oil-producing region, the company earned the award for its Benizar brand, a delicate Picual.

"We are always pleased to receive a mention in such an important worldwide contest," production chief José Antonio Gomez Lozano said. "We are proud of the work done by the team of this company."

In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 4,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil using machine methods. Gomez Lozano added that such prolific production provides many blessings, but some challenges too.

"Due to the increase in production, the greatest challenge is to be able to mill while preserving the maximum quality of the oil obtained without harming the harvest rhythm," he said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed on the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
