Little Gypsy Farms Triumphs with Koroneiki in New York

Greek producer Little Gypsy Farms has won a Silver Award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

Situated in Kalamata on the Peloponnese peninsula, the company earned its fifth World Competition accolade for its High Mountain Organic brand, a medium Koroneiki.

"We are so appreciative to be honored with a NYIOOC award," said owner George Gyftakis. "We work all year for this one annual harvest, and it feels rewarding to be recognized for our family-owned, trusted source of olive oil."

"We are one of the few small brands with farm-direct sales, and we love educating our customers on the benefits of high-polyphenol extra virgin olive oil and harvest transparency," he added.

Gyftakis cited rising production costs and high olive oil prices at origin as the main challenges he faced in the 2023/24 crop year.

"Our challenges this year were the costs," he confirmed. "We are unique because, unlike most producers, we grow and bottle from our own small farms."

"This allows for farm-direct extra virgin olive oil with a very high degree of quality control without middlemen, which allowed us to keep prices moderate even though extra virgin olive oil costs have risen over 125 percent this year," Gyftakis added.
