Laconiko Celebrates Ten Years of Excellence
Greek producer Laconiko has won three Gold Awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
For the 10th consecutive year, the NYIOOC has played a significant role in our reputation and validation of our quality... it is our moral responsibility to offer our customers the absolute best.
Diamantis Pierrakos, producer
The Laconia-based company earned awards for its Laconiko brand, a medium Koroneiki; Olio Nuovo Reserve brand, a medium Koroneiki; and Laconiko ZOI brand, a medium Kalamata.
"We are overwhelmed with excitement," producer Diamantis Pierrakos said. "For the 10th consecutive year, the NYIOOC has played a significant role in our reputation and validation of our quality."
"We are so grateful to our loyal customers in the United States, who have supported us and inspired us to give 110 percent of ourselves," he added. "It is our moral responsibility to offer our customers the absolute best."
As Pierrakos indicated, Laconiko is a long-time winner at the NYIOOC, with four of its brands combining to earn 17 awards since 2014.
Despite their sustained success, Pierrakos said the company, and the olive sector more widely, faced continuous hurdles, with 2023 serving as no exception.
"In this business, we are always faced with different challenges," he said. "This year was no different. With the limited availability of laborers in our region of Laconia and the constant lurking issues with the fruit fly, we needed to harvest overtime daily to ensure our quality was not jeopardized."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
