Slovenian producer Kmetija Drnovšček Estate has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
I feel grateful. This award means we are producing olive oil the right way. It's repayment for all our hard work.
Matej Drnovšček, owner
The company produced 1,800 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil from Bjelica olives using traditional harvesting methods in the 2020/21 crop year. Kmetija Drnovšček Estate earned the Gold Award for its organic robust Bjelica.
"I feel grateful. This award means we are producing olive oil the right way," owner Matej Drnovšček said. "It's repayment for all our hard work."
He added that the main challenge his company faced during the 2020 olive harvest was managing the olive fruit fly.
"Our main challenge was managing the fruit fly by doing proper tree pruning, monitoring and protecting the olives organically," Drnovšček said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
