Puglian Cooperative Wins With Outstanding Coratina

Italian producer Il Rosone has won a Silver Award for its Selezione Il Rosone, a medium Coratina, at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

It's a great recognition. It is easy for a small company to produce excellent oil, but for us it is a great challenge because we have to choose the best olives from the more than 700 members. And to them we must say thanks for the great work done in the olive groves.

The Puglia-based cooperative produced 900 tons of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods in the 2019/20 crop year.

"It's a great recognition," cooperative CEO Giampiero Berardi said. "It is easy for a small company to produce excellent oil, but for us it is a great challenge because we have to choose the best olives from the more than 700 members."

"And to them we must say thanks for the great work done in the olive groves," he added.

Berardi said that 2019 was a record year for his growers and producers in the heel of Italy's boot.

"It was also challenging because we had to produce an excellent oil in a situation of great stress," he said. "But we managed to bring our Coratina oil to New York."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
