The Alantejo-based producer also earned two Silver Awards for Reserva, a medium blend, and Gallo Bio, an organic medium Picual.
"Winning at the NYIOOC makes us very proud," blender Mavilde Marchante said. "It is a recognition of Gallo’s passion and centenary expertise selecting and blending high-quality and flavorful olive oils."
"These awards demonstrate our commitment to enrich the olive oil experience, showing that Gallo olive oil flavors have been appreciated by the finest palates," she added.
Gallo Worldwide produces organic extra virgin olive oil in Ribatejo using traditional methods.
Marchante said that 2019 had been a very good year for the producer, in spite of having to begin the harvest earlier than anticipated.
"2019 harvest was a record year in terms of volume," she said. "There were relevant challenges, like the fast ripening of the green olives and an early start to the harvest season."
"A high quantity of fruit reached the mills and made the production management more demanding, but we were able to overcome this and achieve a crop year of extraordinary extra virgin olive oils," Marchante added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
