Hiç Awarded For Organic Ayvalik

The Turkish producer Hiç Extra Virgin Olive Oil has won a Silver Award for its organic medium Ayvalik at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

It's a great honor to represent Turkey as a global olive oil producer. This award recognizes the result of the traditional methods we use of growing our olive trees in the forests' natural flora and wild elements.

In the 2019/20 season, the company produced 10 tons of organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"It's a great honor to represent Turkey as a global olive oil producer," marketing manager Nancy DePiano said. "This award recognizes the result of the traditional methods we use of growing our olive trees in the forests' natural flora and wild elements."

"We have worked hard as a small team and unestablished brand," she added. "This award also reinforces the use of our new, custom pressing facility."

DePiano said that 2019 had been far better that 2018 for the company, but acknowledged that the olive harvest is always a challenging time of year, especially with organic groves.

"2019 was better for us than 2018," she said. "The weather patterns were more in our favor in 2019. With that said, harvesting is always challenging for us as we grow our trees wild in the largest organic olive forest on the Aegean coast – the Hiç olive forest – where we stand on terraces and challenging terrain to hand-pick our olives."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
