Olio Frisina Beats Heat to Produce a Winning Carolea
Calabrian producer Frisina has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its Olio Frisina, a medium Carolea.
Our big efforts during the whole year in the olive grove and the particular attention in the mill brings our Carolea oil to this high-quality level. This award repays the considerable work and attention behind producing this oil.

The Southern Italian company produces extra virgin olive oil from Carolea olives using traditional methods. Olio Frisina won a Silver Award as well at the 2018 edition of the competition.
"This second Silver Award makes us very proud and confirms that we're on the right path," co-owner Anita Regenass Frisina said. "Our big efforts during the whole year in the olive grove and the particular attention in the mill brings our Carolea oil to this high-quality level. This award repays the considerable work and attention behind producing this oil."
Frisinia's success comes in spite of the hot weather that the region experienced during the harvest, which made extracting the oil in ideal conditions more difficult.
"In 2019, the biggest challenge was maintaining low the temperatures for the olives before pressing them at the two-phase mill as it was extraordinarily warm during the month of October, our major harvest month," she said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
