Not an Easy Season, But a Winning One for Entimio
Entimio and Fattoria Bini, from Italy, have won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for their Entimio Distinto, a medium blend.
Having received such a significant prize at the most prestigious olive oil competition in the world repays us for our hard work and helps our brand and product to be known to the world.
Daniel Santini, Entimio founder
In the 2019/20 season, Entimio produced 2,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany from Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olives, using traditional methods.
"We are incredibly proud of winning this award, mainly because it comes in such a challenging year," Entimio founder Daniel Santini said. "Having received such a significant prize at the most prestigious olive oil competition in the world repays us for our hard work and helps our brand and product to be known to the world. It is not our first award, but it is undoubtedly our most dear!"
Among the challenges faced by the Tuscan producer last crop year were extreme temperatures and issues with pests, but Santini and his team persevered through them.
"The 2019 harvest was one of the hardest on record in Tuscany, plagued by extreme temperatures, both cold and hot, at unusual times and by early and repeated attacks of olive fly," he said. "We deployed all our experience and craft to save our crop and produce a high-quality extra virgin olive oil, free from pesticides. In the end, production was down 60 percent, but we love our extra virgin olive oil!"
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
