3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer Frantoio del Grevepesa has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

This is the first year that we have participated in NYIOOC with PDO Chianti Classico and to receive this award fills us with pride. Our hard work has been rewarded and this award gives us a further incentive to continue on the path of quality.

Raffaele Spaccamiglio, marketing manager

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 50,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany using traditional methods. Frantoio del Grevepesa earned the Gold Award for its PDO Chianti Classico, a medium blend.

"This is the first year that we have participated in NYIOOC with PDO Chianti Classico and to receive this award fills us with pride," Rafaelle Spaccamiglio, the company's marketing manager, said. "Our hard work has been rewarded and this award gives us a further incentive to continue on the path of quality."

For the 180 families responsible for the production of the PDO Chianti Classico, Spaccamiglio added that 2020 had been an even more challenging year than normal.

"This year the difficulties have certainly multiplied for everyone," he said. "However, we have always been united by our passion for our work and our love of this land. Nature has been generous with us this year, the harvest went very well, and the quality was high."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
