Terra Creta Triumphs With 3 Golds at World Olive Competition
Greek producer Terra Creta has won three Gold Awards at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Of course, we are satisfied with the great results. But also, we feel an obligation to continue aiming even higher.
Emmanouil Karpadakis said about the award
In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 4 million liters of organic extra virgin olive oil in Chania Kritis, Crete, from Koroneiki olives using traditional harvesting methods. Terra Crete won its three Gold Awards for an organic medium Koroneiki, a robust Koroneiki and its Gran Cru, also a robust Koroneiki.
"Of course, we are satisfied with the great results. But also, we feel an obligation to continue aiming even higher," marketing manager Emmanouil Karpadakis said. "We believe that both extra virgin olive oil of superior quality and the farmers we work with deserve a better future where the motivation for excellence along with innovative and environmentally friendly practices will play a key role."
With their large network of farmers and milling experts, Karpadakis added that every harvest brings its own challenges for Terra Creta and 2020 was no exception.
"Perfect coordination between Terra Creta's team of experts and the team of farmers we work with is very challenging in any case," he said. "However, last year, the goal was to determine the ideal harvesting period for every single olive grove, a task that is not easy at all."
