Elis Groves International Olive Oil Inc. has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Winning the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil quality competition will give customers the confidence needed to buy a truly authentic, premium, extra virgin olive oil.

Athanasios Grillas, Co-owner, Elis Groves International Olive Oil Inc.

The Canadian company produces extra virgin olive oil in Greece from 2,500 Koroneiki trees using traditional methods.

The 2019/2020 season was marked by favorable conditions, company co-owner Athanasios Grillas said after receiving news of the award.

"While there were many challenges in 2019 for many producers in areas of southern Europe, our area in the Western Peloponnese was fortunate and did not experience any harsh weather conditions or disease. Our groves situated in Elis region (Chavari village) of Greece, has ideal soil and weather conditions for the 'koroneiki' variety olive oil," Grillas said.

The awarded oil was Elis Groves, a medium Koroneiki.

"We are so excited that Elis Groves extra virgin olive oil has won gold! We are so grateful that the NYIOOC has validated the quality of our olive oil further by this win. Winning the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil quality competition will give customers the confidence needed to buy a truly authentic, premium, extra virgin olive oil," Grillas said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
