In Challenging Year, Cape Schanck Wins Again

Australian producer Cape Schanck Olive Estate has won two Gold and two Silver Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We’re thrilled with how our oils have fared in such a prestigious extra virgin olive oil competition, and proud to be an Australian representative amongst some of the best producers in the world.

The Victoria-based company has won a total of 15 awards at the NYIOOC. They earned the Gold Awards for a medium Frantoio and medium Picholine. The Silvers were awarded for a medium Coratina and medium Picual.

Cape Schanck Olive Estate produces extra virgin olive oil using traditional harvesting methods.

In spite of the this year's excellent performance at the NYIOOC, Tham said 2019 was a challenging year for olive growers in southern Australia.

"Mother nature has a habit of throwing us new challenges each year," she said. "2019 was particularly dry and hot in spring and summer, and our trees struggled."

"We are absolutely surprised by the oils the trees have produced," Tham added. "We are also incredibly grateful for the support from our local Mornington Peninsula community."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
