Due Fanti Wins Gold for Gorgone Monovarietal
Italian producer Due Fanti has won a Gold Award for its Gorgone, an organic medium-intensity Crastu monovarietal, at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
To win from our first harvest with a fledgling company during our first experience as entrepreneurs truly means a lot. We have done what we enjoy with passion and while having fun, but also while dealing with unforeseen challenges.
Andrew Federico William Langford, CEO
"We are incredibly proud of our product, our work and our result," CEO Andrew Langford said. "To win from our first harvest with a fledgling company during our first experience as entrepreneurs truly means a lot."
"We have done what we enjoy with passion and while having fun, but also while dealing with unforeseen challenges," he added.
Due Fanti produces organic extra virgin olive oil in Sicily using traditional methods.
Langford said that the 2019/20 season had not presented any unusual challenges. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made the aftermath of the harvest more difficult as well as planning for the next one.
"This year, the harvest did not present any one specific issue," he said. "The issue faced by Due Fanti, as well as many other companies in the world, is the coronavirus."
"However, we will keep operating with faith in the quality of our product and the authenticity of our aim – to preserve biodiversity and create awareness around nearly-forgotten cultivars," he added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
