Domaine Clos des Faucons Awarded at 2023 NYIOOC
French producer Domaine Clos des Faucons triumphed at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
We're very happy... This award is for us an international recognition that will accelerate the reputation of our oil in an undeniable way.
Richard Maupas, owner
The Provence-based company earned a Silver Award for its Reserve brand, a delicate blend of Aglandau, Picholine and Bouteillan olives.
"We're very happy," owner Richard Maupas said. "This is some of the best news we can hope for our estate."
"We are a small family farm, and we work very hard every day in our groves for the love of our olive trees and our land," he added. "This award is for us an international recognition that will accelerate the reputation of our oil in an undeniable way."
In the 2022/23 crop year, Domaine Clos des Faucons produced 2,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
Like many other producers in Provence, Maupas said he had a light harvest this year after a spring heatwave damaged olive trees as they blossomed.
"We work our groves with the objective of quality and no objective of quantity," he said. "In spite of that, our volumes are low this year mainly because of the strong heat in spring."
"We thus concentrated on the work of the ground and trees to help them to better cope with these climatic events," Maupas added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
