Ciccio’s Olives Awarded for Carolea at NYIOOC
Ciccio's Olives has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Calabria (Italy) from Carolea olives using traditional methods.
"It leaves us without words," Pino Pugliano said about the award. "Our family simply does the work of our father, and it's extraordinary to see our olive oil awarded a Silver Award in New York at the NYIOOC. We're all very proud and excited. "
The 2021/2022 season was marked by significant challenges, the company's co-owner said after receiving news of the award.
"This past harvest was an especially difficult one," Pugliano told Olive Oil Times. "Along with the rest of the world, we faced a worker shortage. With olive oil production being extremely labor-intensive, this presented many challenges. Additionally, we're fortunate to typically have ideal weather that olive trees thrive on, but this year even the weather was poor."
Ciccio's Olives won a Silver Award for its medium Carolea produced by Fratelli Pugliano in Calabria, Italy.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
