Chris & Olive Awarded for Koroneiki Monovarietal
Chris & Olive has again triumphed at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
I am very proud of all the resilience, patience and adaptation we have put into our process... This award is a symbol of all the hidden work that is done.
Olivier Garibal, CEO
The Kalamata-based producer, which sells its extra virgin olive oil in France, earned a Silver Award for a medium Koroneiki. The brand previously earned a Gold Award in 2021.
"I am very proud of all the resilience, patience and adaptation we have put into our process," chief executive Olivier Garibal said.
"Every year, we change something to explore the olive world," he added. "Each new harvest means a new process based on what has been done before. This award is a symbol of all the hidden work that is done."
In the 2022/23 crop year, Chris & Olive produced 4,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
"I found the ideal time to harvest," Garibal said. "I always do it very early, so the winter does not affect the olives, but I rely on my instinct, taking olives between my fingers to learn exactly what nature has to tell me. For ages now, I have understood my trees very well."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest.
