Centonze Celebrates Golden Finish to Challenging Season
Italian producer Centonze was again awarded at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
I think this is an important award for me and my company to show our extra virgin olive oil to more people. Winning at the NYIOOC is an opportunity to promote our territory and local products.
Nino Centonze, CEO
The Sicilian producer earned a Gold Award for its Case di Latomie Sicilian PGI brand, a medium-intensity Nocellara del Belice, Biancolilla and Cerasuola olives blend. Centonze has won six awards since 2016 at the competition.
"I think this is an important award for me and my company to show our extra virgin olive oil to more people," chief executive Nino Centonze said. "Winning at the NYIOOC is an opportunity to promote our territory and local products."
In the 2022/23 crop year, Centonze produced 123,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
"This year, we faced a tough challenge," he said. "The high temperature and drought made our production less efficient than last year."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
