Olio Solum Wins Gold at World Competition
Italian producer Gioacchini Antonio e Antonio has won two Gold Awards at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
This means a lot to us and pushes us to do better and better.
Giovanni Gioacchini, co-owner
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Lazio from a blend of olives using traditional methods. Gioacchini Antonio e Antonio earned the Gold Awards for its medium Olio Solum Caninese and Olio Solum, a medium blend.
"We are so happy and proud to be awarded again in 2021 in one of the most important olive oil competitions in the world," co-owner Giovanni Gioacchini said. "This means a lot to us and pushes us to do better and better."
For the producers behind the Olio Solum brand, this year's awards are especially gratifying after a difficult climate and the Covid-19 pandemic complicated the harvest in 2020.
"Last year was quite challenging, especially during the ripening period in summer due to the drought and hot weather that lasted until the harvest," Giacchini said. "We had also to face the second wave of Covid-19 in Italy during the harvest period that made everything more complicated in terms of personal safety and distances."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
