Avistria Awarded at World Olive Oil Competition
Croatian producer Avistria has won a Gold Award and two Silver Awards at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We are very proud that three of our oils have been awarded at the competition. Our Istrian Blend got its award for the second time, which is a big success, as we started blending just one year ago.

The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Istria from Istria Buza, Leccino, Istrian Bjelica and Pendolino olives using traditional methods.
Avistria earned the Gold Award for a delicate Istria Buza. The company earned the two Silver Awards for a delicate Pendolino and delicate blend.
"We are very proud that three of our oils have been awarded at the competition," co-owner Rudolf Nemetschke said. "Our Istrian Blend got its award for the second time, which is a big success, as we started blending just one year ago."
"Participation in competitions is the most important factor of quality control in our company," he added. "The next step will be the review of all production steps on basis of the results."
The 2020/21 crop year was marked by significant challenges, Nemetschke said, with Covid-19 restrictions and pests both hampering the harvest.
"Travelling was restricted in 2020, which resulted in a lot of management challenges," he said. "In parts of the olive groves, we had problems with the olive fruit fly, especially with one autochthone variety shortly before the start of the harvest."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
