The Lazio-based company earned a Gold Award for an Itrana monovarietal, its first at the competition.
"We're surprised, happy and honored for the recognition from such a prestigious competition," owner Antonio Zangrilli said. "This award will also make our selected customers happy who have appreciated and believed in our oil."
"This important award will create a new phase of development for the Zangrilli company," he added.
In the 2022/23 crop year, Zangrilli produced 4,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil. "The unpredictability of the climate caught us unprepared," he said.
"My commitment was to accept the change and to create a new harmony between the farmer, the olive grove and the climate," Zangrilli added. "My trees were born at the end of the 1700s, they met my ancestors, and with them, they overcame all the difficulties and now they will face them together with me."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
