X 37 Grados Norte’s NYIOOC Win Boosts Export Prospects

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Spanish producer X 37 Grados Norte has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

XY is the result of centuries of effort, excellence and tradition in the Subbético Mountains of Priego de Córdoba.

María Luisa Povedano, owner

The Andalusia-based company picked up the award for its XY brand, a medium Picuda.

"We owe a huge thanks to NYIOOC for this award, which helps us drive XY extra virgin olive oil into the American market," owner María Luisa Povedano said. "XY is the result of centuries of effort, excellence and tradition in the Subbético Mountains of Priego de Córdoba. The Picudo variety distinguishes us in an autochthonous and very unique way in the worldwide extra virgin olive oil market."

X 37 Grados Norte produces extra virgin olive oil from Picuda olives using traditional methods.

Povedano said that in the current economic climate, exporting her company's olive oil has been the biggest issue facing the company in the previous crop year.

"Internationalization is our current challenge; to show the added value of and differentiate the XY brand," she said.

"We have spent generations pampering centenary and millennial olive trees on our farms," Povedano added. "Monovarietals are our signature and we hope to reinvent them with the help of the best chefs."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
