Suran Izola Wins Gold at World Competition

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Slovenian producer Kmetija Suran Izola has triumphed for the first time at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

After entering in 2018, but failing to receive an award, the Northern Adriatic producer has earned a Gold Award for its Suran Izola brand, a medium blend of Leccino, Ascolano, Leccio del Corno, Leccione and Istrian Bjelica olives.

Owner Alfio Suran said he was satisfied with the award and felt very good about receiving the recognition, which came amid a bumper harvest.

Winning the award was even more gratifying after Suran overcame a series of challenges during the harvest, including difficulty hiring enough workers to pick the olives.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
